How To Set Up a Public Web Server


Creating a Web server, undoubtedly facilitate people's access to documents and files. Below are detailed instructions on how to create a public Web server. 


Navigate to the Computer Control Panel.
There are three common ways that you can go to access the control panel, and these are as follows.

  • Hit "Start", "Run" and then in the text box, type "Control Panel" and then click "OK" 
  • Hit "Start" and select the icon "Control Panel". If you use the Windows Classic Start menu, click Start, Settings, then Control Panel 
  • Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop, and then on the left pane, the folder "My Computer", under "Other" locations, click "Control Panel" 
Run Add / Remove Windows Components panel.
First, you need to tighten the "Add or Remove Programs panel, simply double-clicking on the appropriate icon in the Control Panel folder. In the left pane, re-started box, click on the icon "Add / Remove components of Windows". 

Or, you can easily pull up the Add or Remove Programs "panel without access to the control panel. This is accomplished by clicking on the "Start", Run, type "command appwiz.cpl" in the text box and clicking "OK". When the Add / Remove programs fill the screen, simply click on "Add / Remove Components Windows". 

Install the necessary components of Windows, to make the work a web server on your computer.
The following procedure is necessary to configure a web server.

  • In the Components dialog box, Windows, look at the "Application Server" 
  • Using a mouse or similar pointing device, select the item. Make sure that you do not tick or clear the check box next to 
  • Hit "Details" under the description of the component 
  • In the new dialog box, which jumped out, make sure the boxes "Internet Information Services", "Common Files", "Internet Information Services Manager" and "World Wide Web Services" is a tick 
  • Highlight World Wide Web Services, and then Details, another dialogue box jump 
  • Hit the OK button three times, and then "Next" 
  • Follow the wizard, and then when the wizard is done when you install these components, click "Done" 

Change the web server configuration.

The next steps in changing the settings on your server.

  • Launch Manager IIS, and then open your web server account 
  • Select "Default Web Site", right-click on it and select "Properties" 
  • Click on the website by clicking on the appropriate tab 
  • Hit the tab "Home Directory". If you use a directory on the server itself, by contrast, was in the tab "Location Directory on this computer", then you will be prompted for the access path 
  • Hit the tab "Documents" and select "Add" 
  • Change the "Default Content Page" in "index.html" 
  • Hit the OK button twice to apply the changes 
  • Select "Default Web Site" and right click on it. In the menu that fills, select "Stop" 
  • Select the "Default Website" again, right click and this time select "Start". 
A public web server is now configured and ready to use.
